Mario Kart Wii Friends needed

Sunday, April 13th, 2008

Thanks to the girl at Game Mania who saved me her last Mario Kart Wii I was able to play this highly anticipated game, all weekend.

I’m sure most reviews of this game will be very positive (video review), the game is fun and has enough variation. It’s easy to get started, anyone can play. But once you get to know the characters, their rides (now also with bikes) and practice some skills like drifting and stunts (new too) you will be flying down (yes, it goes that fast) those wacky race circuits like a real pro. Combine this with a neighbor and the classic slapstick chaos of hitting each other and you are in for an allnighter.
Another great thing in the game is the music, just like Super Mario Galaxy the game seems to purr and roar depending on how hard you’re playing it.

Also new is is the Mario Kart Wii channel. This allows you to race and battle online. I still have to test this feature. The only thing iI’ve been doing is racing against the ghost data of others (data records of their races), it’s very addictive and perfect to train your racing skills.

The only thing I still need is some more wii friends to battle or race with. Invite me, my kart-code is 4167 4630 5897. (For others who don’t kart you can also connect via 8743 2571 5346 1923). Once you’ve invited me please send me a mail (peter at gmail dot com) with your code so I can do my part. I know, the whole online thing on this game (and the wii in general) is fairly complicated but don’t let it ruin our hours of cyberfun. Hope to meet you there…

Here is one to pull you through the rest of the week…
I would like to invite you all to my boyfriends 30th birthday celebration. Instead of throwing a small family gathering he decided to make it a real party with concept and unique sound where everybody is welcome.

The party will be welcoming the Born2groove collective (NL) who will bring us some funky, fat ans soulfull tunes. We also have Red D, He’s resident at make-up and decadance and one of Ghents best. To end in glory we’ve invited Electric lord.
Anyhow, it’s going to be a great party we’re expecting a nice blend of people. And I would like to see some of you people there.

Also, if you feel like warming up on Friday you can join the preparty and see Trip in action.
Will you be there?
Check the myspace for more information or hit (more…)

Dear Róisín,
Some time ago Reggie promised to take you on a date. But he didn’t show up… Instead, he chose to work on some of his fancy clients over having a great night with you.
Róisín, you deserve better a better man, a man who would put everything aside for you. You know me, altho I have some fancy clients myself I’ll make sure to have time for you.
I saw you yesterday being fabulous as always in the AB and oh me, oh my… you gave me a tickle in a way I thought no woman could tickle me, I feel overpowered.
Face it Róisín, our chromosomes match and Reggie didn’t even bother to show up yesterday.

Also: can I use the outfit in this picture? My boyfriend (soon to be yours too) is throwing a party and I don’t have an outfit yet. We’ll put you on the guestlist.

Some Flickr old time

Flickr can be so much fun. Tonight I came by this flickr set of vintage book covers. They’re kitsch and most of them are gay themed dirty novels with titles like “the killer queens“, “the gay rebels” and “a man’s affair“. I was quite surprised, I never saw these little book of naughtiness before.
On top of it, when browsing the images I noticed some funny notes by another user. He used the notes as speech bubbles. It seemed like a nice idea to co-create cartoons on flickr so I started to play along and added sime of my own notes. Take a look around, find them and add some. Allow yourself to have some
gay old innocent play-time.

Wall deco

Lately I’ve been keeping an eye on wall decoration, my walls are just plain white. I think they could use something, nothing big, just a smart detail.

This is my shortlist of potential places to shop:
A better tomorrow wallstickers
AIKO prints
Blik wallstickers
Tonky wallstickers
And surface view wallpaper

And then miss Ubiqitous came up with something, a quote on the wall. In most cases I find quotes on the wall a bit boring, but not this time.
-Only dull people are brilliant at breakfast- Oscar Wilde

I can’t agree more. Nice quote Dr. Pew, what quote would you recommend for my place?

Sabbatical entertainment and insights

As most of you know, I’ve been between jobs since 2 months. And with These Days missing I found myself with 3 months pay and a whole lot of time… I wasn’t ready for work so I spoiled myself and got some quiet time.
And it was great!, being on Sabbath literally throws you in that other dimension, the one where work is optional.
I discovered it is fun to be alone, I had the chance to watch series and read work-unrelated books. And since I’m planning to come back and start sharing again I decided to share some of the best distractions I had.

Ugly betty: The best discovery of this summer (picture).
Betty her looks really don’t work for her but she has the ambition for two. This ugly duck wants to work in journalism and picks up a job for the fashion magazine ‘Mode’ where she meets lots of fashion cliché people in a gay Star Trek environment. Sounds a bit like The Devil wears Prada but it is totally different because of all the twists and marvelous one-liners. It’s 23 episodes of pure drama, comedy, mystery, farce, camp, soap opera, and satire and has been renewed for a second season.

Earth final conflict:series from star trek creator Gene Roddenberry
Aliens have made first contact with humans and saved the world from hunger and war. They call themselves our companions and share their technology with us.
This series is full of interesting novel technologic concepts and cultural references. I’m glad I got around to see it, my sci-fi knowledge expanded again and I picked up some fancy ideas.

Eleanor Rigby: a Douglas Coupland Novel
I really like the characters Douglas portraits in his books, they always look upon life in a original and funny way. This time It is about Lizz, an overweight ginger woman who can be very funny even when luck isn’t always on her side. The book totally pulled me on the emotional rollercoaster, I almost cried and I had a few good laughs. Emotional stuff is something I like to avoid but this time it was different… Can’t wait to read The Gum Thief.

Hyperspace: A scientific odyssey through parallel universes, time warp and the 10th dimension.
A farewell gift from These Days and a good one too. The book describes every detail about modern physics (the one they don’t teach at school).
While reading it your worldview really changes and in between reading you can’t stop thinking about it, it rocks your mind! Now I can finally explain you without any problems the strings theory. Those who saw What the bleep do we know may find this book to be more down to earth and thus far more scientific and less esoterical.

Conclusion: Some might say I’ve spoiled 2 months but I like to think of it as 2 months of mind-expansion…
Some would be reading marketing-books and other professional content but being away from all that showed me that all those things are narrowing your mind and make you lose the big picture. People tend to drown in all that marketing twitter and when you ignore these things for a moment, you’ll notice that the hypes that we, digital people throw ourselves upon are just concepts that give us the fake feeling that we’re in control, making us uninventive and dull…

People from a parallel universe

Tuesday, May 22nd, 2007

I think people all ask themselves the same kind of questions. Some questions we never ask out loud because they might sound naive.
How come there are so many people out on the street all day, seemingly not working (between 9 to 5)? “, I think, silently we all asked that question before. But we never did anything to find the answer…

This guy did it. He went outside on a regular working day between 9 and 5, and asked people what they were doing.
He wrapped his day of research into this column, it’s a nice read.

He concluded:
a great many people don’t inhabit cubicles”
And yet this parallel universe exists right alongside the work-obsessed one. It looks nice, too, as parallel universes go.”

Also, he came across a blonde Belgian girl…
Just visiting, said the blonde with the cappuccino outside a Starbucks; she passes for native but comes from Belgium. And she’s been saddened by the weather. (A believer in temporary solutions, I lied that tomorrow was supposed to be lovely.)”
So, if someone of you people happen to know a blonde who was in San Francisco on the 21st of May, then tell her I know where she can find the guy who lied to her.

at least 235 jokes

Some friends and I decided to count the amount of jokes in Top Secret (sample) with the young and very sexy Val Kilmer debuting on the big screen.

Pompoeneter did the counting and got up to 235 jokes (that is 2,6 jokes per minute).
We are sure we missed some of the jokes so feel free to recount, but be sure to send me your results.

What made us do it? After a few days of snowboarding the evenings were filled by killing the pain with weed and alcohol.

It’s Sumerville in my head

Everybody plays songs in their heads, songs they’ve heard earlier or songs that a triggered by thinking about something. There is nothing strange with humming songs, at least if they do not include Jimmy Somerville. Lately I notice myself humming the Bronski beat hit collection. It all started with “Don’t leave me this way” and last weekend I got stuck on “smalltown boy” so i added a remix on my myspace. Somehow the Bronski beats put me in a state of bliss but it is hard to control myself on the humming. Humming Somerville’s voice is just strange.

When I’m alone at home I tend to sing along with the music and mostly I don’t care about how it sounds but still, I just can’t do Somerville, it’s just to strange for me to go that high. Is it my masculinity? This guy on youtube obviously didn’t doubt himself, and so didn’t he or they.
Anyhow, I’m sure my Bronski beat period will fade and hopefully it will not be replaced by some ABBA fever.
