Want to see something funny?

Monday, June 2nd, 2008

Yes? Than you’ll be glad to hear that the 6th season of the Last Comic Standing (”Idol” for stand up comedians) started a week ago. The first episode was great and gave me the feeling that we’ll see some more great stuff.
Unlike the Belgian version of the show you can watch this one for free and whenever you want. (help)

Some Flickr old time

Flickr can be so much fun. Tonight I came by this flickr set of vintage book covers. They’re kitsch and most of them are gay themed dirty novels with titles like “the killer queens“, “the gay rebels” and “a man’s affair“. I was quite surprised, I never saw these little book of naughtiness before.
On top of it, when browsing the images I noticed some funny notes by another user. He used the notes as speech bubbles. It seemed like a nice idea to co-create cartoons on flickr so I started to play along and added sime of my own notes. Take a look around, find them and add some. Allow yourself to have some
gay old innocent play-time.

People from a parallel universe

I think people all ask themselves the same kind of questions. Some questions we never ask out loud because they might sound naive.
How come there are so many people out on the street all day, seemingly not working (between 9 to 5)? “, I think, silently we all asked that question before. But we never did anything to find the answer…

This guy did it. He went outside on a regular working day between 9 and 5, and asked people what they were doing.
He wrapped his day of research into this column, it’s a nice read.

He concluded:
a great many people don’t inhabit cubicles”
And yet this parallel universe exists right alongside the work-obsessed one. It looks nice, too, as parallel universes go.”

Also, he came across a blonde Belgian girl…
Just visiting, said the blonde with the cappuccino outside a Starbucks; she passes for native but comes from Belgium. And she’s been saddened by the weather. (A believer in temporary solutions, I lied that tomorrow was supposed to be lovely.)”
So, if someone of you people happen to know a blonde who was in San Francisco on the 21st of May, then tell her I know where she can find the guy who lied to her.

Dreamgirls

Part biopic, part musical, this new film by Bill Condon brings a lot of oompf. But be ready to handle a truckload of singing.

at least 235 jokes

Some friends and I decided to count the amount of jokes in Top Secret (sample) with the young and very sexy Val Kilmer debuting on the big screen.

Pompoeneter did the counting and got up to 235 jokes (that is 2,6 jokes per minute).
We are sure we missed some of the jokes so feel free to recount, but be sure to send me your results.

What made us do it? After a few days of snowboarding the evenings were filled by killing the pain with weed and alcohol.

Everybody plays songs in their heads, songs they’ve heard earlier or songs that a triggered by thinking about something. There is nothing strange with humming songs, at least if they do not include Jimmy Somerville. Lately I notice myself humming the Bronski beat hit collection. It all started with “Don’t leave me this way” and last weekend I got stuck on “smalltown boy” so i added a remix on my myspace. Somehow the Bronski beats put me in a state of bliss but it is hard to control myself on the humming. Humming Somerville’s voice is just strange.

When I’m alone at home I tend to sing along with the music and mostly I don’t care about how it sounds but still, I just can’t do Somerville, it’s just to strange for me to go that high. Is it my masculinity? This guy on youtube obviously didn’t doubt himself, and so didn’t he or they.
Anyhow, I’m sure my Bronski beat period will fade and hopefully it will not be replaced by some ABBA fever.

Advertising is Horny, Long Live Advertising

During the last year or so, I’ve been compiling innovative and surprising communication ideas and cases from all over the world. I’ve categorized over 200 cases in 8 different techniques, and packaged them in a glossy, illustrated book titled ‘Advertising is Dead, Long Live Advertising’. In Germany, the book is published by Stiebner, in the Netherlands by BIS publishers, in Belgium by Lannoo and in the rest of the world by Thames & Hudson. If you want to get a rollercoaster view on the most surprising, off-beat, off-the-wall & innovative communication campaigns of the last 6 years, this is the book to buy!

As the author, I was most proud to find out that the book was already distributed in a highly erotic book shop in the center of London (don’t ask me what I did there). I must admit there is partial nudity in the book (another reason for purchase!).

But they can dance!

AAAAH, there is nothing more relaxing than spending an evening wandering around on Youtube. Last night I discovered again something hillarical, Rayman Raving Rabbids. This is the story:

The world is being invaded by an entire population of hilarious but scary raving Rabbids (see video). When there is such a thread, the best thing to do is “Get to know the enemy“. And that’s why scientists have been gathering some very scientific facts about those crazed beings…

The result is hilarious, so far we know that the bunnies are dangerous with fireworks, can’t play soccer, don’t vacuum and never close doors. They also have a problem with cooking eggs, milking cows and infiltrating conventions. Oh and they’re French, but most important, they can dance… Well I’m not sure what you think but I feel safe knowing this! More facts? subscribe to the podcast.
For those who (like me) aren’t into gaming that much, It’s all part of a campaign to promote the new game Rayman Raving Rabbids on Nintendo Wii (full trailer).
But, for those who (like me) want more Raving Rabbids and without a Nintendo Wii might still be able to get it. Joystic reports that it also might be released on some other game consoles.

Also: another funny clip (2) from a guerilla campaign “the C’mons“, similar story… (thx) (I know who made it and what it is for but i pormised not to tell untill 26/09 :D ).

Update:
FYI, The C’mons is a campaign to promote the new Opel Corsa by mccann international.
